Blackmores ProActive Multi for 50+ includes specific doses of ingredients to help maintain physical and mental agility as we age. It helps to support and maintain:
*Everyday energy levels
*Heart health
*Healthy cognitive functioning
*Healthy vision
*Healthy blood sugar levels
*Immunity and resistance to infection
*Antioxidant defences against free radicals
*Healthy skin repair and wound healing

The ageing process results in many physical changes, including changes in body weight and skeletal muscle mass, raised levels of free radical activity, and increased requirements for a number of nutrients.
CoQ10 is a naturally occurring antioxidant that plays an essential role in the production of energy in all cells. It is important for the maintenance and health of virtually all human tissues and organs, but is concentrated in organs with high metabolic activity, such as the heart. The body’s ability to synthesise CoQ10 declines with age and when taking certain medications.
Lutein is a carotenoid that makes up the macular pigment in the lens of the eye and macular region of the retina. It supports eye health, and helps maintain healthy vision and visual acuity (sharpness).
Vitamin A is essential for vision and healthy skin.
The B vitamins play an essential role in the metabolic processes of all living cells by serving as coenzymes in the conversion of carbohydrates, proteins and fats from the diet into energy. They also the normal function and maintenance of the nervous system, and inadequate dietary intake may result in fatigue and weakness. In older people, adequate intake of B-group vitamins is also important for the maintenance of healthy cognitive functioning.
The nutrients vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, manganese, selenium, lutein and CoQ10 have antioxidant properties that support the body’s defences against free radicals. In particular, vitamins A, C and E support antioxidant defences in the brain. Maintaining adequate levels of vitamin E also appears to support the maintenance of the mental and cognitive functions that often decline with age.
Chromium, an essential nutrient for sugar metabolism, works with insulin to support the uptake of glucose into cells. A diet high in sugary or carbohydrate-rich foods can increase the loss of chromium from the body, contributing to unstable blood sugar levels in healthy people.
Iron is essential for oxygen transport in the blood, and for energy production. Along with vitamin C and zinc, it also plays an important role in supporting immunity and maintaining resistance to infection.
Vitamin D supports the absorption and utilisation of calcium, and consequently is important for building and maintaining strong healthy bones. In older people, vitamin D also supports muscle strength, which in turn supports balance and stability, reducing the likelihood of falling over.
Zinc is another nutrient that is essential for bone structure.
